Eclectic Teen Girl Room E-Design {Sugar, Spice & Kilim}

Bold, Yet Dainty
Strong Willed, Yet Sweet
Sugar, Spice and Kilim
"Keep Your Heels, Head & Standards High"

I was asked by a client to come up with a room for a teen that LOVES Audrey Hepburn movies. She asked for a little bit "Sabrina" and a little bit "Breakfast at Tiffanys". She wanted sophisticated yet still fun and not too "matchy". So a vintage, boho, flat style was what I was trying to achieve. We needed to incorporate a few pieces that she had already and a new, exciting Kilim rug was on the MUST HAVE list. I encouraged and sourced a high quality Kilim that will be an heirloom for this teen girl...something that she can take with her and use her entire life. As a matter of fact, working within budget, we were able to find investment pieces (Rug, Bed, Lamp) that are staples that will never go out of style.

Downton Abbey, Season 4, Episode 7 {How Bazaar }

This latest episode was my favorite this season.
Although there are some holes in some of the plots, the character growth and dialogue keep me wanting more each week.  I wish there had been another hour tacked on to this weeks episode.

As always, I saw so many things in the sets this week.
Every week I love to see the downstairs kitchen area. I've talked about copper, backsplashes, gray paint, sconces and antlers before. The sconces and antlers had me again this week.

What did you think about Mr. Molesly and Ms. Baxter?
I may refer to them as "Fun and Funner" from here on out.

Other stand outs for me this week are things that have been there all along, but have been showing up more often in design circles lately:

Throwback Thursday {Home Made Peanut Butter Cups of Love}

I am a choco-holic. And Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to OD.
Chocolate is my vice.
My Godfather, Uncle Louie, had a drawer full of chocolate peanut butter cups from a swanky chocolate shop in Rockport, MA {TUCK'S Candies) the last time I visited him. He made the mistake of letting me know where his 'stash' was and I cleaned out an entire box of enormous peanut butter cups over the course of the week that I was staying with him.  OOPS.
It was then that I thought, "I could make these".
Over the years, I've tried several different recipes and have developed my own.
They're so good that my dog once ate 3 dozen off of our kitchen table the day before Christmas {and survived]...just saying, they're irresistible.
And easy to make.

Valentine Freebie Printable {Hello, I love you}

I'm sort of a music lover.
Music is a part of me. So much that I usually always have a song going on in my head...especially while I write and blog. That being said, most of my freebie printables that I share here at Commona My House (which is another song, by the way)... are song lyrics. So this Valentine Week I will be sharing a free printable each day. They'll be some of my favorite love songs in all different genres.
Come back each day to see what the song of the day is. It may be one that you know and love...it may be new to you.

XXXOOO,

Downton Abbey Season 4 Episode 6 {Saved Our Bacon}

I really loved Downton this week.

Maybe it's because Mr. Blake is growing on me. He may be growing on Mary as well. Maybe it's because I loved this actor, Julian Ovenden as Val in The Forsythe Saga...but I think he'll be around for a while here on Downton. To read an interview with Julian about Downton, as well as the pig scene, click here.

Last night was all about pigs , a nurse who talks as much as a drunken vicar and politics in Ripon.

But don't go thinking I was preoccupe' (as Rosamund says to Edith), I paid attention and made
a few observations that were in the background this week:

I loved to see the change in clothing...it has been evolving all season, but the 1920's free style, no more fussy dresses, modern day wear on Cora was fabulous this time around. I also loved seeing the Earl's striped tie. This is so now...so Anthropologie. Interesting how it all comes around again.

Have I mentioned yet that I think Gregson is a spy? Not sure which side. At this time in British history, there were several covert spy rings among upper class and even titled families. There were even folks (and maybe an American President, that believed the Prince of Wales was involved with the Germans).  (If you are into Hugh Bonneville, check out Glorious 39. It takes place later than the time period of Downton, but on the eve of WWII).

Poor, Poor, Edith. She can't catch a break can she? But what a brave woman she has become.

Speaking of Edith, when she had the conversation with Cora about Greggson (watch this scene here) and heading up to London AGAIN, did you catch the ottoman she was sitting on?
An  X-Base Stool

We were shown a few bed chambers this week. What I noticed in both Mary's and Violet's rooms were their lovely vanitys. I think I have to figure out a way to have one.

Hayworth Mirror & Vanity - Silver

I thought that the writing this week was fabulous. There were really excellent dialogues going on and some memorable one liners:

"I'm quite a plotter: it's a skill all women must learn", Isobel.
"This nurse talks too much she's like a drunken vicar", Violet regarding Isobel.
"I refuse to be shocked", Aunt Rosamund to Edith.
"You've completely saved our bacon, literally", Mary to Mr. Blake.
"Aunts are for disloyal falsehoods, where parents are concerned", Aunt Rosamund.

Next week should be EPIC. Bates knows about Mr. Green AND the Americans are coming!
What was your favorite quote or most crushing moment from this week's episode?
XXXOOO,
